Leave It All On The Field

Today was the last football game of the season for the kids at the Boys and Girls Club in Redwood City. It was an end to a long and tiring season, chalk full of frustration and disappointment. It's not disappointing because we didn't win one game. It was never about winning. It was because they don't always show up to practice or try their best. And that is disappointing. But something was different today. It was the last game of the year. They played their hearts out and left it all on the field.

After the game, I sat them down and asked each of them to name something they learned this year. And though they lost every game this year, it was apparent they all took something far more valuable. They learned about leadership, responsibility and teamwork. For that, I've never been more proud to coach these kids.

man...its the parents fault they didnt always show up to practice...
thats why i cant eva put my daughter into activities...her ma is too lazy to take her...hopefully u helped teach them about commitment and always following thru with things. i also hope none of ur gayness rubbed off on them so they dont come back as cheerleaders next season...

Haha. What's funny is the kids tell me stuff like "my mom thinks I'm gay" or "my mom thinks I'm doing drugs"...so they were all asking me to print out the pictures I took of them so they could show their parents that they're playing football.

The parents are somewhat to blame for it. They're not around to support them. But at the same time, it was up to the kids to come after school.
